This is one of Gary's go to flies from June onwards when fishing a floating line. As the name suggests this is always tied on his top dropper and has proved deadly at Blagdon and Chew during midge hatches.

Black and Claret has always proved a deadly combination on stillwaters and this emerger pattern is a great fly when the trout are feeding in the surface. Apply floatant to the white antron breathers which allows the body of the fly to sit in the surface film. This is a great dry fly pattern during a midge hatch on all reservoirs.

Hoppers provide great sport when trout are feeding near the surface. This pattern uses a striking wine coloured tinsel for the body which has proved irresistible to trout. The ideal pattern when you want a fly to sit right in the surface and still be visable.

Trout start to feed on fry near the surface around late September and into October and this is when this pattern come into it's own. As the name suggests fish this as a point fly with a floating line. It can also be fished on the point and top dropper using the washing line method with small nymph patterns on the other droppers. This is not a fly for retrieving, just cast out, take in the slack and hold on!!
