Kingfisher beadheads are all tied on Maruto hooks from Japan. The top quality beads used, are hollowed out to enable them to slide onto the hook without damaging the barb. Lead wire is then wound onto the hook and pushed up inside the hollowed out bead - this replaces the weight lost in hollowing out the bead, and holds it firmly in place. This technique is used right down to the size 22's - see the picture on the right.
